My senior year in high school was also my first year in a Christian school. I didn’t really know what to expect or what would be expected of me. I always did well in school, but didn’t know what the difference was academically. I walked into my English class and was shocked when I was asked to diagram a sentence. I never heard of it before. It was in that moment that
Mrs. Marlene Behrens made it her priority to teach me how to diagram a sentence and how to live the most productive Christian life that I could. She was a constant motivator and driving force in the development of who I am today.
You can have opportunities like that. Even if you are not a teacher by occupation, you can influence younger people. You can be a good example, to encourage, to motivate, to teach, and to influence those younger than you.
The Bible encourages us to teach and influence those younger than us in I Tim. 5 and Acts 12. The apostle Paul took the younger John Mark with him on his missionary journey. “And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.” Acts 12:25
There are young people you can help and encourage. Reach out and teach them how to live for the Lord. Someone once told me that teaching young people isn’t just about spending time, it’s investing in it.
